FIRE HOLLOW by Melissa Tantaquidegon Zobel will be available upon request to reviewers and academics on November 1, 2010. The Official Release date of this book is February 1, 2010. The Author says of her upcoming release: There are many secret Americas. Most include folks from some fiery, far-off corner of the globe. Not so with my hidden people, the Mohegan Indians of Uncasville, Connecticut. Few people know anything about us, even though we have lived on the American continent since memory. We are so well hidden that most Americans think we are extinct. Responsibility for that falsehood lies with James Fennimore Cooper’s classic 1827 novel, The Last of the Mohicans. That book featured the iconic Mohegan leader, Uncas, in a fictional role as the son of a Mohican chief. This make-pretend Uncas character was killed without issue in Upstate New York during the mid-eighteenth century. According to Mohegan Oral Tradition, the real Uncas was a Mohegan Sachem (Head Chief) who lived in Connecticut from approximately1598-1683 and fathered many children.
